About UsA Brief History...CYB Construction Ltd This company was formed in 2010 and has purchased the assets of Chris Yeats Builders Ltd. Essentially, it is the same people operating the business but with some long-serving staff owning a minority shareholding. Chris Yeats and Karen Greenslade continue to own a majority of the shares, and the business has the same plant and headquarters. Kent Youngman, previously of North Canterbury and Auckland, has been appointed General manager. The main reason for the change was to enable some staff to have ownership of the business, thereby stimulating it and creating new energy and freshness. The name CYB Construction was chosen to better reflect the nature of our business, and to relate it to Chris Yeats Builders Ltd (CYBL), which is the entity that it grew from. We intend to carry on operating to professional, high standards and build on the foundation laid by CYBL. Chris Yeats Builders Limited was established in 1994. Prior to this, Chris Yeats acted as a sole trader from 1989 until 1991, before taking a year off to tutor carpentry at the Tai Poutini Polytechnic in Greymouth. During this period he was the building site manager for the construction of a two storey classroom block, using students as labour. In 1993, Chris started back in the carpentry trade. His first substantial job was the Olsen house, which was, at the time, the largest house in Greymouth. The company continued to grow with the developing West Coast, and soon the company employed seven staff to work on the Mines Rescue station in Rapahoe. Further down the line, Chris Yeats Builders took on the Franz Joseph Scenic Circle Hotel in 1999, which was the beginning of a series in projects in the South Westland area. For this particular project, the company's staff grew to employ fifteen carpenters. From 2000 onwards motels, restaurants, retail and houses were constructed by the team, and soon the company required a workshop and staff flat base at Franz Josef to serve the South Westland area. The year 2002 saw the purchase of the company's first heavy machinery – a Hiab truck and trailer. The purchase of the hi-ab truck opened up new opportunities to engage in more commercial building, as well as providing heavy-lifting services around the Coast. The construction of the Fresh Choice supermarket required more numbers, and soon the company employed thirty-two staff. This major project triggered the need for the next step in heavy machinery – a 30-tonne Kato crane was purchased. In the past decade, the company has picked up national awards, including the 2005 National Supreme Winner- Commercial award at the Registered Master Builders House of the Year competition. Chris Yeats Builders Limited received national recognition for their supreme success, and continues to provide award-winning service both in both commercial and residential sectors, employing a steady thirty-two staff West Coast wide. |
